President and Chief Executive Officer
Denny DeNarvaez is President and Chief Executive Officer of St. John’s Mercy Health Care, consisting of St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, St. John’s Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, St. John’s Mercy Medical Group, comprised of more than 150 primary care physicians and over 100 specialists, St. John’s Mercy Health Services, including corporate health, a variety of home health services, pharmacy and optical shops. She began at St. John’s Mercy in July 2005.
St. John’s Mercy Health Care has a net revenue of $1 billion with a total of 1,166 licensed beds; 9,275 co-workers and 1,297 physicians. The organization is in the midst of major renovation and rebuilding projects throughout the organization. At St. John’s Mercy Medical Center alone, the campus is undergoing a multi-year half-billion dollar campus renewal project.
In more than 20 years in health care, specifically as the CEO of Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Florida Medical Center in Lauderdale Lakes, Florida, and CFO at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, DeNarvaez has developed a blend of experience in not-for-profits, for profits, and now in a religiously affiliated system. She emphasizes a healing environment that includes an organizational culture, a physical environment, integrated clinical programs, and administrative processes that support healing.
She has worked with physician leadership in a setting called the Physician Clinical Council to create winning strategies for each center of excellence. With that same collaborative approach to teamwork, she has brought some of her many successes on behalf of patients to her new surroundings in St. Louis. In addition, DeNarvaez created a Nursing Clinical Council designed to enhance the ability of St. John’s Mercy to collaborate with the nursing profession in a strategic way. Both these Councils have been created to enhance communication among caregivers at St. John’s Mercy.
